Your Arrival is Coming Up!

We are excited to have you as our guest at the Snow Bear and hope that you will have a great time while you are here. The Snow Bear is the hidden jewel of Taos Ski Valley, nestled on the mountain just above the world-famous Taos Ski Valley Ski School. You will find our Lodge to be one of the most family friendly, and once you are here, easiest places to access on the mountain.

Getting Here

In the wintertime, in the mountains, 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is a must, if you have questions call ahead to confirm. Without 4 wheel or all-wheel drive drive you may need to park in the public Taos Ski Valley Parking below. Always check the recent weather and snow reporting before you head up the mountain from the much lower elevation areas around it.

When you come into the Ski Valley’s only entrance, come down the hill, follow the main road, (signage makes it look like the road is closed but you can continue) and watch for the first set of blue Ski Valley directional signs and take that right as if you are going to the Children’s Center, it is the first building you will come across. This is Firehouse Rd. Pass the Children’s Center and hook right passing the village offices, fire and police, and head up the hill keeping the Rio Hondo Condos to your right.

You will plateau in our lower parking area and see the SnowBear on the hill above you to the left, then the road will switch back to the left and take you further up the hill a little ways to condo-side parking. This part of the road is rough in Summer and deep with snow in midwinter so if you’re not sure of your vehicle or your skills, park at the lower lot. During Ski Season, you almost always require 4 wheel drive, the upper portion of our driveway is an active Snow Cat Track for TSV for daily grooming in the off hours. Turn into the driveway and find a place to park. Please be courteous and take up as little space as possible and angle in to the mountain. One car per unit unless there’s no one else in house, please. If this lot is full, unload your gear and park in our lower lot. Just don’t block the road, The Ski Valley brings the snow cats up this way.

***If you do not have an adequate vehicle to deal with current conditions, please communicate with us ahead of time and we can help, once you are here, you will be able to walk, TSV shuttle, and ski everywhere you need to go.

Finding Your Unit

The one-story building closest to the parking lot houses the Chamonix units and Davos. The three-story building has the Vail units on the lower floor, Aspen units on the second floor and the Breckenridge on the top floor. Your keys and arrival packet are in the box at the end of the first building’s deck and you should have received personalized information in your emailed arrival instructions.

Once Inside

Our units are beautiful and well maintained, however they were built in the 1960s and have some quirks, for one, the light switch is never where you would think it should be, best advice is to walk through the room you are in – the light switch is often on the other side. Upon your arrival, we will leave a few lights on and the heat up a bit so that you will not be busting your shins finding your way around.

Getting to the Lifts

Early season, walk down the hill and the gondola is right there, this will take you to the base area and lift one (the one that goes up Al’s Run). The new beginners lift is also right here as well. Once the snow piles up, walk across the road from the upper parking lot and ski down to the lifts and the ski school. Easy! To get back, look for the Snow Bear sign on Whitefeather, you can ski right down the cat track to the condos.

Please no skis inside the condos, lean them against the exterior or just stick them in the snow, we are very lucky in Taos, people leave your gear alone!! Please limit ski boot wear in the units, it is really rough on floors and gets your floor wet! Units are fully furnished and have all amenities you should need. If you are missing something please let us know.

We will provide one roll of paper towel, two trash bags for each bin, a soap, shampoo and conditioner for each shower, a soap for each bathroom sink, dish soap and dishwasher detergent, a sponge. Two rolls of toilet paper for each toilet. Enough towels and washcloths for the stated occupancy of the unit.

Please reuse towels, water is scarce in New Mexico, we try to our best to conserve. Please remember that this is not a hotel, this is someone's home, amenities are left as a courtesy. If you need more than what is stated above, please bring it with you. All linens are provided, one set per reservation.

*** If you require a mid stay cleaning, please let us know ahead of time and we can arrange that, there is an additional charge.
